A Reference Design for High-Performance, Low-Cost Weigh Scales

The accuracy required by weigh scales is not initially obvious. Their typical resolution is only 1:3,000 to 1:10,000, so a 12- to 14-bit ADC would seemingly be adequate. A closer examination shows that this is not case, however, and that a 20-bit ADC is really required.
